Commissioned by the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain to mark its 20th anniversary the choir gave the first performance, conducted by Dan Ludford-Thomas in Birmingham Town Hall, August 2018. Since then it has received many performances in the UK, US, Sweden and the Middle East. This cantata is a compelling exploration of the extraordinary story of Nujeen Mustafa, a Kurdish teenager with cerebral palsy forced by war to flee her home and embark on a 3,500 mile journey to Germany with her sister. On September 21 the BBC Singers gave the London premiere of McDowall’s cantata, ‘Everyday Wonders: The Girl from Aleppo’ with violinist, Harriet Mackenzie, James Morgan, conductor. The BBC Singers’ broadcast took place on 4 March, 2019 on BBC Radio 3. 

Published by OUP it is available for SATB, solo violin and piano. In 2020 it will be available in an upper voice version and there will also be a string accompaniment available.
