Classic FM has chosen A Winter’s Night as its Album of the Week with Alexander Armstrong.
McDowall’s Christmas cantata, A Winter’s Night is sung by the Winchester College Chapel Choir with Onyx Brass, Ben Cunningham, organ, conductor Howard Ionascu. Recorded on the Signum label this is a lovely collection of Christmas music, old and new. Howard Ionascu writes, ‘As I began exploring repertoire for this combination, Cecilia McDowall’s wonderful Christmas cantata (the title track of this disc) became an obvious central work to record. This contemporary take on five well-loved Christmas carols receives its first complete recording with the original scoring.’
