Judith Mohr, conductor
In this program of the ambitious Cologne-based conductor, Judith Mohr, the work of the Englishwoman McDowall (*1951) catches the eye. It is based on the last words of nurse Edith Cavell before her execution in October 1915. She had helped wounded Allied soldiers escape in Brussels – until she was betrayed, arrested and sentenced to death. The British and Belgians revere her to this day. McDowall has dedicated a poignant tribute to her.
Concert to include works by Mendelssohn, Reger, Britten, Alfred Schnittke and Jaakko Mäntyjärv
